all grown up and bringing home the butternut [because squash is so much prettier than bacon].

i survived my first real day as a grown-up and came away with only a small blister [i don't think i've ever spent a full day in heels. ever. wedding day included, hence blisterville]! i had planned to write about work and my orientation, but it was pretty much your run-of-the-mill orientation with not many high points. so instead, i'd like to tell you about my visit to the grocery store after orientation.

it was one of those trips to the grocery store. you know the kind. i guess i had it coming, going to the grocery store at 3 on a monday afternoon following a holiday weekend. as i was driving through the parking lot, a man walked out of the store and right in front of me, so i stopped to let him cross, which he did rather slowly. i thought to myself, wow, this guy doesn't even see me. he just walked right out in front of me like he owns the place.

inside, it was the kind of grocery trip everyone dreads. the kind where you grabbed a cart with MAJOR alignment problems, and everything just goes downhill from there. it seems everyone in town decided to go to the store at the same time you did, and you can't get out fast enough.

i couldn't get out fast enough.

so as i walked out the door, i didn't look at any cars, i just walked right out in front of them like i owned the place.

ding.
[that's the light bulb going on above my head]

that's so funny! that literally happens almost every time i go to the vons down the street from my house. it's like bumper carts in every aisle and you just want to ram someone's cart!
