family + food.

i'd love to share tidbits from my weekend [which, incidentally, began on wednesday]. if you're not the least bit interested in my personal life, this post isn't for you. this is about my family and the things we eat when we're celebrating something. just to clear up any confusion.
wednesday was my mom's birthday, so i drove up to portland and my sister and i surprised her with this little guy in his very own dome cupcake stand...
oh, and that necklace above sure does say "birthday girl" on it. hand made by yours truly.
we made an afternoon trip to mom's garden...
jen and mom did most of the work...or all of the work? i'm better at watching.
the bounty...

we finished the day with peach blueberry crumbles. yum yum.
now onto the weekend. my sweet little squirt had her first horse show on saturday...
i'm still wrapping my head around the idea that something that small can have control of something that big.
she did ground work with the horse and then a little riding routine [at which point my camera battery died].
but what do you know, homegirl got second place in ground work and first place in riding.
love it.
saturday night we looked through old photos...which i love.
love these photos of my grandpa in germany during world war II...

oh, and then there's jen rocking her elton john look. classic.
sunday night was the official birthday celebration for mom, complete with food that was the knock-your-socks-off kind.

yum.
mini toasts with roasted bell peppers and gorgonzola, and more mini toasts with goat cheese and savory fig jam.
fig jam. mmm.
the weather hasn't changed completely, so of course there was enough time without rain to sneak in a wiffleball game.

it was a good week[end].

xoxo.

Looks like it was a terrific weekend. I must say that those tomatoes look soooooo delicious. Did your Mom grow all of those? Nothing's better than homegrown veggies.
