mama didn't raise no underachievers.

so my dad loves mowing the lawn [and i promise this relates]. just really enjoys it. when my brother, ryan, was in high school, my mom had to convince my dad to teach ryan how to mow the lawn. my dad would have happily kept the task to himself, but knew that it was an essential skill ryan needed to know how to do, so he conceded.
here's how it relates: my mom is quite the expert at stringing lights on the tree, and now i'm wishing my dad had told her to show me how, just like he had to teach ryan to mow the lawn [although some could argue that light-stringing isn't as necessary a skill as lawn-mowing, but i think it is]. i always felt that this was her territory, unapproachable by others, though she insists that i'm just exaggerating and that she would have been happy to have us help her in christmases past. nonetheless, i felt pretty lost last night when i plugged in my first strand. i just looked at it, and then the tree, and then back to the lights for a good ten seconds before i started [i know, ten whole seconds]. but, i'm happy to announce that the tree is both lit and still standing, so it must be instinct.
or maybe it's just not as hard as i thought it was.
or maybe i did a terrible job, but no one will notice because it's only landon and i in this sweet little apartment.

well, it's one of the three.

cause we need a little christmas
right this very minute
amen.

xoxo.

It looks great! I love decorating my tree. We do it over a whole week - lights for one or two days, then days of ornaments (between a family of 8 people you really accumulate a lot of stuff), and then any other decorations like the topper and the mantle of the fireplace.
